Stress

I feel that sports can be a main cause to athletes and causing stress. When I went to the University of Delaware we had a minimum of 8 hours a day and I was constantly stressed to a point where I got sick. Since I have been here basketball is much better therefore my stress level went down. I feel that if people in the PE major or anyone in this matter that are thinking about becoming a coach, one should realize that putting too much pressure on an athlete can cause way too much stress which can greatly effect many things.

  1. I agree that stress can be caused from sports in some situations. Double sessions and all day practice can get tiring and stressful because so much time and committment goes into it. Also, how your teammates and coaches treat you can be stressful. However, participating in sports often times relieves stress especically that is caused from all the other things going on in ones life. I think that overall, sports mainly help stress rather than create stress.

  2. I totally agree. Coaches put so much pressure on their athletes to be perfect. I feel that sometimes they don’t understand the everyday pressure we have such as school work, family stuff, and working at a part time job. I also feel that just because we are athletes that the coaches feel that our lives are centered around the coach and the sport that we are playing. It is hard being an athlete, sometimes sports help with the stress and other times sports are the stress that much of us do not want to deal with.

  3. I partially agree with you because, yes a coach can cause stress to an athlete if he or her are pushed to hard. At the same time a lot of athletes use sports as a chance to relax. If the coach pushes them hard athletes find it as a challenge to show that they can do it and that’s a good way to calm down from a stressful day. At the same time they still can cause stress because the some coaches are just worried about having the best team and they don’t take the time to think how hard their athletes might have it so stress in sports all depends on the person themselves.

  4. I sgree that sports can be a cause to stress. It can be extremely stressful when you have a lot of school work or a job and your practice goes an extra hour long. When you are taken away an hour that you thought you had to work on your stuff will stress you out because you start to freak out about how you are going to get everything done. When you are stressed out like that you never have a good practice which adds more stress. It adds more because your coach will be all on your case and may be yelling at you and you have to be able to deal with it.
